The following idea of mine is marked as a duplicate:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/1159/
yet the so-called duplicate is totally different in almost every aspect:
Idea #69:
*Update the partner repository more frequently.
Idea #1159:
*Allow easy installation from 3rd party repositories through web interface.
*Packages from 3rd party repositories should get updates, if possible without adding the repository to sources.list.
*A mechanism for purchasing software licenses online and managing them transparently without messing with product keys or the like.
*An API for apps to check if the user signed on them has a license to use them.
*Some form of protection, such as encryption, for commercial apps.
*Verification of license ownership every time a user wants to update commercial apps.
If you vote for this idea, it doesn't mean you vote for
idea #1159 or
idea #69. It simply means that you clearly see these ideas are not the same and shouldn't be marked as the same. They don't share goals, and they don't share proposed solutions, so it's best to keep these vastly different ideas apart.
Idea #69 aims for the provision of up-to-date commercial apps.
Idea #1159 aims to encourage and ease 3rd party software distribution, whether commercial or not, while providing a standard user friendly way of dealing with commercial software.
