Idea #28281: Workspace Switcher Desktop Dragging Feature

bug This idea was marked as already implemented the 29 July 11. Available starting Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
Written by erangax7 the 16 Jul 11 at 14:45. Related project: Dolphin. Status: Already implemented
Rationale
This is to improve the usability of Ubuntu, when working on multiple desktops. We need a feature that enables a mouse drag on the current desktop that would easily bring the next workspace. Just as you would drag your finger in an iPad to get the next screen. Say we are at the right hand side of the workspace 1 and if we drag in a horizontal way, it will bring workspace 2. If we do it vertically it will bring up workspace 3 and diagonally while at the bottom right hand corner will bring up workspace 4. Similarly depending on the current workspace you in the position to drag on desktop will change. Where for example while in workspace 4 you will need to drag at top left hand half.

Currently it's cumbersome to switch between the workspaces as you either have to press Ctl+1,2,3,4 or have to find the icon from the scorlling toolbar on the left. I believe this is a much needed feature that should be included soon to improve the usability and to do our work much faster.

If I understood correctly this is a function that you can activate by going to system prefs > compiz > Desktop wall > edge flipping and checking the box Edge Flip Move.
