I'm not sure what this idea means. I see transfers when I'm copying and moving files in Nautilus.

You see only time not Mib/s or KiB/s for your disk drive.
If i pay money for USB Pendrive (20MiB/7Mib/s) I will to see it is the true or not when copy my files to this hardware.
