Idea #27823: Removable Drive Icons both visible from the launcher and desktop

bug This idea was marked as implemented the 15 October 11. Available starting Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.
Written by louisdk the 7 May 11 at 20:29. Related project: Unity. Status: Implemented
Rationale
The Unity launcher in Ubuntu 11.04 show removable drives in the bottom which I think is nice.
But the same removable drives are still visible on the desktop which I think is unnecessary.

Selected solution (#1): Hide Removable Drive Icons from the Desktop
Written by louisdk the 7 May 11 at 20:29.
To fix this just remove the drives from the desktop.
It can be done with this command: gconftool-2 -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser --type bool

Remove removable devices from the launcher and from the desktop, and replace it with an indicator menu with info about each device and a button to mount/unmount at the side.
