I agree - I just got my LanDrive's firmware updated so I can actually use it but, I can't be bothered editing /etc/fstab!

How about a front-end to mount -t smbfs \\ip
with a nautilus-ish interface?

muecker wrote on the 3 Mar 08 at 20:25
You can already do it using Places->Connect to server, but I would like to see it better integrated.

Yeah it would be great to be able to browse the network within Nautilus.

"Connect to server" probably covers just what you guys want. When connected through, say SSH, it show up as a folder in nautilus and on your desktop. Better integration is a must though.

Things that bother me about "Connect to server":

It doesn't let the server handle pointing to my home folder (on the server). Further, it doesn't let me change the folder it loads to on the server. While this is interesting as otherwise I would have never discovered the severity in the decline of CS students in my college while looking for my home folder, it's just a pain.

It doesn't let me change the "Name to use for connection."

In fact, it's not easy to change any mounted network drive.

It'd be nice to have an easy way to reconnect them after rebooting as well.

most definitively a good idea. Being able to choose where it is mounted from and where it is mounted to would be great.

See fusesmb for your distrib. Really easy to use.

This was discussed at UDS Boston: https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/easy-file-sharing

fusesmb is probably the way to go, seeing how this is going to most often be used (sharing personal files or music.)
