Idea #27670: New Ubiquity screens (during Ubuntu installation) - to reduce bloating

Written by spiralciric the 21 Apr 11 at 18:20. Related project: Live CD installer. Status: Not an idea
Rationale
Just about almost every linux distro comes with lots of preinstalled stuff that most of us dont need or use different apps. Ubuntu is no different and during installation it gives no option what major apps user prefers. I think that should be changed, as linux is all about making and liberty of choices.

Solution #1: Screens in Ubiquity with checkboxes
Written by spiralciric the 21 Apr 11 at 18:20.
The idea is that during installation of Ubuntu, in Ubiquity there are screens which prompt us for questions what do we prefer. My suggestion for screens goes like this:
1. Chose Office suite
*Open Office
*Gnome Office
*Libre Office
*...
*None
2. Chose Browsers
*Mozilla Firefox
*Chromium
*Google Chrome
*Midori
*...
3. Chose your Printer - dropdown list (so it does not install almost every single one there is)

4. Chose your Scanner - dropdown list

5. Chose games
Checkboxes for aproximatelly 30 most popular games and checkbox for "none"

6. Chose IM programs
*Pidgin
*Skype (Multiverse)
*Ekiga
*Empathy
*...
*no IM

7. Chose email client
*Evolution
*Thunderbird
*...
*none

8. Chose video app
*VLC
*Totem
*MPlayer
*SMPlayer
*...

9. Chose Audio app
*Rhythmbox
*Songbird
*Banshee
*XMMS
*...

10. Whatever comes in mind that is widespread used
