Description
I would like to see a possibility to define the start-up sound volume and/or a possibility to turn off this melody after Gnome is waiting for the users login.
The problem is: If the user forgot to reduce the sound volume, during the next boot, the same level will be used to play this intro music. I am using a Dell Latitude D505 with no option to reduce the sound. Almost damages my built-in speakers.
Cheers,
Baiki

Go to System->Administration->LoginWindow
On the Accessibility tab you can disable the login sounds, or change them to sounds files that aren't as loud (Audacity is a pretty decent sound file editor if you want to try modifying the volume of existing sound files).
You might want to poke around in System->Preferences->Sound as well.

@zdenik:
"Go to System->Administration->LoginWindow ... you can disable the login sounds ..."
Fantastic! Worked like a charm for me :-) But maybe it's just a wish any more ... gives Ubuntu one more touch of elegance ;-)
Thanks a lot, and I think you solved the problem.
Cheers,
Baiki

Simple workaround: Just plugin an earphone or headset 8-)
It's 99cents if u don't have one. Actually you can even use just the jack (cut it off) of a broken one.
