Rationale
Currently the default window manager (Metacity) has no suitable GUI for adding and editing shortcuts. There's Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts, but its features are limited. Currently one either has to set up xbindkeys or dig through gconf-editor just to set shortcuts for certain apps.
Current Keyboard Shortcuts GUI is confusing and it is difficult to set anything. I am not sure what are future plans for this from Gnome side, but it is simply not suitable.
It is not obvious that you can easily search for commands so it would be much better for users to add visible filter field to window.
Another idea is to add possibility for custom commands (programs). Just add another group “Custom” and button “Define” for defining them. There should be also possibility to delete those custom commands (there could be another button “Remove” visible only when you select one of custom commands).
I hope that this is making sense! Please add some relevant comments and vote for this (so we could see some changes soon).
