Description
I've ran into this several times now...have setup a computer for someone & later they want to add another hard-drive--Sounds simple to me, but when I talk him/her thru it--finding the UUID--proper defaults & information, well, let's say the normal answer is---"why is this so hard?? When we installed it, everything was done already"

Mac OSX has a editor called "Drive Utility" (catchy name--yes ) that partitions, labels & creates the fstab files--all rolled into one.

I would like to see something similar based around gparted--I think that all that would be needed would be a dialog or tab that offered the function.

Also look at:

I think it should be a "must-have" idea to roll all of these ideas into one manager....a "one-stop" application for disk management.
Added 11 Mar 08: We also need a simple way to create raid(s).

In review, I think that the best ideas of parted, Gparted & Disk Manager could be "merged" into one application--I believe that a bounty-motivated "contest" to create the application would serve the community best (perhaps announce the idea on this website & UbuntuForums?)

Its currently a very messy process, I agree.

Also, having a partitioner that can use more than msdos partitioning is necessary when installing Ubuntu on systems with many Terabytes of storage.
I need a partitioner that supports gpt partition table.
I know parted is available when running off the CD, but the partition label
gets messed up when the installation formats the partitions.
Solution for now, is to let Ubuntu do the installation using it's msdos
partition table, then back up each partition, boot diskless to partition
with parted and restore the system. I'd love to see parted as the base
for the GUI, that does the partitioning.
