Rationale
If my laptop that I use as a virtual network client does not support the server's resolution, the desktop should be shrunk. Having scrollbars on a desktop is a horrible user experience.
I don't get that people actually vote this down. It's not like Canonical will drop everything in their hands and put all hands on deck for this thing.
If you use Vinagre or vncviewer you'll know that this is a real annoyance, and I'm pretty sure that nobody disagrees that this makes sense. If you don't use it, what do you care if it gets fixed?
Oh, BTW: On my setup Vinagre does not use the vertical scrollbars, but horizontal scrollbars are still there. I guess that's a step forward, but we're still 1 to go.
This is actually quite a good idea, not as the default option of course, but being able to shrink the desktop as an option would be handy
Have you considered actually going to the guys that develop it at http://www.gnome.org/projects/vinagre and suggesting it to them/raising an issue for it?
I disagree with you saying that the desktop should be shrunk. There are just too many things that would become unviewable, depending on the ratio of the res of the client desktop and the host desktop.
However, if there was the option of having it shrink somewhere in the preferences menu, then that would be a much better idea.
