Rationale
Right now if you right click on an archive it gives you the option to "Extract Here". If you want to extract to another folder you have to open archive manager and tell it where you want it to go.
Adding the function to "Extract TO" and allowing you to browse where you want to extract is very useful particularly if you have several files that you want to extract to a different location. Even if it's not the default setting, having the option would be great
There is no reason that we can't have "Extract Here" AND "Extract To" with drat & Drop. That way you can use it the way you prefer, and i can use it the way I prefer. These ideas aren't against eachother.
I would prefer to have a simple user interface that is intuitive, works well and can do everything (ie. GNOME), rather than shortcut macros for every possible action that might be desired cluttering up and confusing the screen (KDE)
"Extract Here" is already there, is adding "Extract To" really going to create a lot of clutter? I'm not asking for 10 options here. As i stated in the idea, making it an option is fine. That way I can turn the option on if I want to use it.
The other person above is asking for drag/drop which i'm guessing has it's own idea. I'm not sure how they want to implemnt that but it has nothing to do with what I'm propsing. I can't imagine it would be something that would be happening through the right click menu though.
How would you implement a drag&drop solution for extract to? You would have to have the target folder open somewhere to drag the stuff into. That would be clutter. Simply expanding the extract menu to include "extract to..." sounds much simpler. Been waiting for something like this since i switched from some other OS to Linux.
We could just have one button that does different things based on how you click it, and clicking it a particular way could envoke autoplay mode for the lazy.
Heh, sorry... something like the right click options added by installing 7zip or winrar in windows would be nice. I'm sure there are probably similar nautilus scripts in existence, so I don't think that this should be too hard to implement.
