Description
Symphony OS is an Ubuntu-derived distro with a unique desktop environment. It's still in beta stage, but with some help from the Ubuntu project, it could become very usable.

Here are some links on it:
http://www.symphonyos.com/
http://www.symphonyos.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_OS

I propose that Symphony OS become an official Ubunutu distro alongside Xubuntu, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu, and all it's packages become installable from Ubuntu repos, so that users of the other desktops can simply do a "apt-get install mezzo-desktop" to easily install it.

Wow...so many "Down Votes" but absolutely no explanations? I think it would be common courtesy to at least provide some reason.

I checked out the links above and thought it's an interesting idea...I'd like to hear someone who down voted to please explain their thoughts/reasons.

People vote down bad ideas and up good ones.
It's not rocket science.

If you can't think about why this isn't a good idea then you should probably just take five minutes.

Ubuntu already has an a core version.
And it has an alternative version.
And it has a lite version.
And it has a super-lite version.

You want to make another version? Go ahead.

But insisting that everyone change their window-manager/distro/whatever to the one that you use (or like or want to use) is just silly.
It would be a gargantuan waste of resources to do what?

Do the screen shots of symphony look hot?
Sure.
They're very pretty.
They have interesting functionality, etc etc.

If there are features that people really really want from Symphony in Ubuntu then they'll get included; with a fraction of the effort that would be required to try to force everyone to suddenly use a new OS/environment/whatever.

That's how it works.
That's why it's being voted down.

@Graf

I'm not suggesting that people be forced to change. Ubuntu users aren't forced to use KDE because of the existence of Kubuntu, now are they?

I'm suggesting that Symphony OS could be given the same status as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Edubuntu, so that people could have the option of easily installing Symphony from the Ubuntu repos, and that the inclusion of Symphony OS as an official Ubuntu derivative would help spur its development.

see, this is where we need to be able to vote people down. because I would give Graf a couple retard points right now for not learning how to read.

This is an interesting idea, but shouldn't the Symphony concept at least reach production quality before there is any discussion about moving their technology to the Ubuntu repos? Or even making it an official project?

Plus making something an official project doesn't mean that suddenly a bunch of development resources from Ubuntu will be diverted to help. The periodic dust-ups over Kubuntu and development support from Canonical should be evidence enough of that.

Still Symphony is a cool concept. No vote either way from me for now.
