Description
I think it will introduced in Hardy, because of Ebox. But really don't know, and prefer to have Apache web server as default.

I asked this because of the future ways to managing desktops. (The predictors predicted that future of desktop computers is web (remote or local))

And after that I think you should have PHP and MySQL by default!!

Your idea is unclear for one. Second installing server software on the desktop goes against the security model of 0 open ports in the default install.

A simple idea is, I want to have a wiki to manage my thoughts! maybe the best software to use is MdiaWiki that developed under LAMP platform and I need Apache/MySQL/PHP to have it.

There are a lot of desktop-related softwares like wiki.

Did you even research this before randomly suggesting it?

You've been able to have LAMP on Ubuntu desktop very easily for years!!

Did you read the idea completely?
I told, "default" installation of Apache :)

Stop trying to bloat my distro!

I don't want any of them on by default.
If I want them, Synaptic will be there for me.

I don't believe it but, I'll grant you it may have some uses for the sake of facilitating discussion, that there may be uses of LAMP on a user's desktop. Now how do you purpose to handle securing the system? You want to break the security model the puts the burden on you to fix it again.

Peter, there are some levels of security and I don't know what exactly you mean.

- Apache can be accessible to 127.0.0.1 by default.
- Port of Apache (80) could be blocked by default in iptables for foreign inbound requests.
- ...

There should be some simple GUI application (like Ebox!) that users can manage services, for example they can open port of Apache or something.

Now, it supports some functionality of firewall or web server: http://ebox-platform.com/archives/2008/02/04/37-ebox-01199-is-out/

I don't see this suggestion likely to happen.

You say Apache should be installed bu default because you want to set up a wiki (which would also imply PHP and probably MySQL). But that's just your specific need. With that criteria, I should suggest Eclipse be installed by default because I use it a lot.

Also, Apache an PHP would be running in the background, using system resorces when on (I dare to say) more than 95% of installed systems it's not needed and not used.

You can alredy install Apache with Synaptics in just a few clicks if you need it. Same for PHP and MySQL (still, I'd like a LAMP meta-package on the repositories, since I had problems before because I didn't know I needed the php-mysql package).
