Description
I think it is important for the update notifier to be color coded to stress the importance of security updates. Red updates could signify that there is an important security updates while all other updates could stay the original orange color.

That's a good idea! People respond more to a critical update if it is bolded in red lettering

Think for the colour blinds, too. In addition to making it red, possibly make it Bold....similarly make the orange Italic.

While a decent idea...I always consider all the updates on Ubuntu as being fairly important/critical since they only do security and bug fix updates. Feature updates only come with new versions of Ubuntu.

Make sure its subtle though, Ubuntu's beauty is partly due to being a breath of fresh air don't make it too imposing.

That's not a bad idea. As long as it's subtle enough, then it could really be an improvement.

Keep the colorblind people in mind though. Bold for Red, and Italic for Orange works fine in my eyes.
