Have a partition editor such a s gparted installed on every fresh installation of ubuntu.

No, I really don't want my mother mistakenly repartitioning her drive.

If you need to change partitions, you're advanced enough to know how to go to Synaptic and get the tool. Keep the sharp tools on the high shelf.

Also you can't resize or otherwise edit a mounted partition, so you're going to need to reboot the system to a live environment anyway if you want to make any changes.

Good point, cheesehead. It's unlikely that one will want to be doing any partitioning while the OS is naturally functioning; the LiveCD route is usually the safest way to go.

Depends on configurations, of course. Nobody said that you have one disk with two partitions. ;)
