Written by vinodlive the 1 Mar 08 at 21:04. Category: Office.
Related to: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Description
1. A Less idiot-proof way of hiding the file system complexities by having "Documents", "Pictures", "Music" type of universal folders.

2. Ubuntu would be ideal to sport something like "Time Machine". That way of backup is idiot-proof and Works.

3. Re-package the best Ubuntu Video editor and Sound editor to make it idiot proof.

4. Better fonts.

5. Super professional, cool looking - 'starting templates' for Publishing, Presentation and Spreadsheets.

6. Native first class Photo Manager with essential editing and device-sync capabilities

In a nutshell, Ubuntu needs a uLife suite!!

I don't like the phrasing of this idea. I think it should be split into separate ones, since it is forcing people to vote one way on issues they either don't care about or would prefer to vote the other way on, simply by grouping all of these points.

The phrase "learning from mistakes" applies to others as well, ie. making a carbon-copy of MacOSX would be a bad idea, since it has bad points too and copying the bad points wouldn't be a smart thing to do.

Please separate your points into different posts. You cannot ask for "less idiot-proof" and "more idiot proof" in the same post!

Each of these should indeed be seperate ideas. However: I wholeheartedly agree: +1.

Backup, photo, and video tools: Already implemented. Ubuntu is not OS X; the tools do not -and should not- look the same. But they're there.

Bling templates: Openoffice.org is waiting for your help.

I've seen a number of ideas in this vein lately, and I'll say it again: I installed Ubuntu, and I did not do so by mistake. I do not want OS X or Windows. If I did, I would have installed them.

Good news! Most of what you're asking for is already present or just a click or two away.

1. Already done? You know you can make your own links and add them to Nautilus places, right?
2. Already in progress -- two projects: Flyback & TimeVault.
3. Just install one from the repository, like Kino. No need to bloat the initial install.
4. What's wrong with Ubuntu's default fonts?
5. http://www.smalldataproblem.org/ooextras/ -- If you've got some good templates, post them on your site to share.
6. F-Spot is already included and compares favorably to iPhoto.

Greyor is right, though -- Ubuntu isn't and shouldn't be a FLOSS clone of OS X.

Time Vault for exists (replacement for timemachine):

The UbuntuStudio project is sort of the iLife alternative I guess. I'm pretty happy with it.

I have taken to automatically voting down "make Linux more like (competing operating system name here) 'ideas.'"

If you want an operating system to be like another operating system... do yourself a favor and just use that operating system and not try corrupting the current operating system with trash from the other operating system.
