Description
I vote many ideas up, because they are just good. But few ideas are really in my wishlist which I love to see them in Ubuntu ASAP. Let me mark them!
For example each user might have 5 "star"s by which one can mark one's most important (with most priority) ideas.
This will give us an idea of priority of ideas as seen by users.

I would go for a number higher than 5, more like 20 (or more). The idea being the average user should never hit the limit but it stops people abusing the star.

I don't feel strongly about it, but I think fewer stars that can be moved to other ideas as priorities change would be better. If you use it and lose it, the you will need a larger number of stars.

If it's REALLY a priority, then join that community and work it. That's FOSS.

A vote is a vote is a vote. No "supervoting" or "priorities". That's what votes are for.

I agree with mp3phish get rid of the current system and deploy something like wine appdb has.

Of course I mean we always have for example 5 stars which we can move them from one idea to another whenever we'd like! We never lose our stars.

REALLY liked this one.

maybe even the whole rating system could be based on this, like on dreamhost's idea panel ..

There is no need to complicate the system with two kinds of voting. If an idea has many positive votes (and comments) and few negative votes (and comments), it is popular. Adding "stars" not only requires resources to implement and maintain, but would also be confusing to users. Also, what do you do if an idea is has many positive votes but few stars, or many stars but many negative votes? It's just a complication.

There may be merit in limiting the number of votes each user has per day or per week, to give time to reflect on the ideas.

It may also be good to even out the votes of users who vote for (or against) any idea they see, with the votes of users who vote conservatively, only for ideas they consider very good (or very bad).

It's a good idea. Maybe stars could be awarded depending on overall idea rating of the user.
