Idea #22175: Add support states for icons like 'Normal', 'Selected', 'Insensitive'

Written by chaos8 the 31 Oct 09 at 19:24. Related project: Gnome. Status: New
Rationale
Icons for menus and panel applets in some themes (eg, Humanity) look ugly when you activate them. New format or type of icons that would use the color of the current color scheme would be awesome.

Solution #1: Monochrome icons (grayscale), possibly w/ alpha channel
Written by chaos8 the 31 Oct 09 at 19:24.
Use PNG images in grayscale color mode. Simply, just a mask.

I agree your solution makes it look better when using the default theme, however i do want to note that if you apply this idea on a different (darker) theme, it makes things looks worse (while it is looking quite nice now actually).

So my point is, it should depend on the backgroundcolor of the pressed button whether the color of the icon should be lighter.

This is a good argument for: "Default theme does not look good." I have changed default theme to Human-Clearlooks which is way better.
