Idea #21842: Skype controls in Mythbuntu

Written by faultycpu the 14 Oct 09 at 01:49. Related project: Mythbuntu. Category: Additional software. Status: New
Rationale
If it is possible to have skype controls in Mythbuntu the same way there are phone controls.

Example: You would have skype loaded. If a call comes in you could use the remote to accept or reject the call. By accepting the call the media is paused, Live TV or played media. When the call is finished you would be given the options to stop, continue, exit. It would be nice to control the skype functions within Mythbuntu.

Solution #2: Run script on incoming calls
Written by spacedoubtman the 10 Dec 09 at 00:17.
Its annoying that linux skype doesn't have shortcut keys. Makes it hard to get working with a remote.

I've written a little script using the skype api that supports answer and hang up of calls if you are interested. I don't use skype a whole lot so its not tested that well but should do the trick.

http://core-inertia.com/skype_pickup.py

To use run skype and go to options / notifications / advanced then set incomming call ringing to run this script eg. python skype_pickup.py

Then when you get a call the script suspends mythtv and you get a nice standard ok/cancel box. If you have enter and escape keys bound on your remote you can use these to accept or reject the call.

Probably best to run it from the command line first to make sure its working ok. You also need to install these additional ubuntu packages:
python-wxgtk
python-skype
skype
wmctrl
