Network Manager
. Status:
New
Rationale
Currently waking up from suspend takes a while in ubuntu.
On a macbook you open the lid of the laptop and within a second you have network connectivity and you can browse the web.
It would be fantastic to have this instant on from supend in Ubuntu

Solution #2:
Change the Network Manager you use...

The network connection not recovering quickly enough or in some cases not at all seems to be a universal problem in Ubuntu. My solution is this, simply change the Network Manager you use. I have found that the WICD network manager will recover the network connection almost instantly when the PC wakes up from hibernation/suspend. WICD is in the 9.04 repositories and can be installed from the 'Synaptic Package Manager' or from the command line using the 'apt-get install' command. When you install WICD the default network manager will automatically removed for you. If you are using an earlier version of Ubuntu you can use WICD's own repository and install it with 'Synaptic' or 'apt-get' in the normal way. More information on the WICD repository can be found here....

The only drawback with using WICD is that it offers no support for mobile broadband devices, although it seems to work well with USB wireless dongles.

In Karmic the display is almost immediately on after a wakeup but the mouse remains frozen for 4-5 seconds before you can use it
