Idea #21440: Possibility to tag packages

Written by frobert the 14 Sep 09 at 12:36. Related project: Synaptic package manager. Status: New
Rationale
It would be nice if you could tag the installed packages and applications, and later export package lists based on tags from the package manager.

For example, if you use more than one computer for work, you could easyly keep the work-related applications (e.g, the ones you tag as work) in sync. It would also help when installing a new/reinstalling an old machine, etc.

Solution #1: Support tags in Synaptic
Written by frobert the 14 Sep 09 at 12:36.
Add the possibility to create user-created tags that are stored locally into the relevant package manager applications, e.g., Synaptic, dpkg, apt, aptitude, etc.

You might be interested in metapackages really:

Although a gui for quick creation of metapackages wouldn't be a bad idea...
