Idea #21438: Logout/Switch User for netbook remix

Written by dotnick the 14 Sep 09 at 10:56. Related project: Gnome. Status: New
Rationale
I took the initiative to install netbook remix along side our Windows XP on our HP mini recently. I installed the 9.04 version of the UNR and realized that my audio didn't work. So knowing that the new kernel would probably take care of that, I upgraded to 9.10. A few things struck me after the upgrade. A lot of effort has gone into the netbook interface, and it has a good feel to it. But it's still missing something. I wasn't able to switch users without going to the "classical interface" first. Also there is no "Shutdown" icon to speak of in the new interface.

There was a shutdown button in 9.04, but I'm now unsure if fast user switching was available in that interface.

Add an icon to the taskbar at the top to allow fast user switching and/or shutting down the pc.

Solution #2: Allow customizable task bar
Written by dotnick the 14 Sep 09 at 10:58.
Allow icons to be added to the taskbar to increase it's functionality, similar to what is available in default Gnome. This would allow the fast user switching/log out and shutdown options to be added per the users option.

I think this is already implemented in Karmic UNR. The session indicator allows you to easily set your IM presence and also lets you switch users and log out easily.
