Merge Evince and Eog into a single application.

Evince and Eog are two programs to view files. Their difference is small in terms of looks. Evince can already open many figure files, but doesn't have the "Next" and "Previous" options and the zoom buttons. Adding these features to Evince would make Eog useless.

Unix's philosophy is "Do ONE thing and DO IT GOOD" showing PDFs and images are different things. for example, showing every PDFs in a directory and change from one to another isn't usefull. but you should go from one page to another in a PDF...

There is a lot of other differences. Maybe we should keep PDFs and Images in differents apps.

Well, actually, the UNIX philosophy is closer to "Do one thing and do it well," but you were very close.

And if you have a lot of related PDFs, like class notes, it can be very useful to quickly change between PDFs as well as advance the pages easily. The question is if we have enough users that would like that specific functionality to warrant implementing it. I think we do.

This is not a good idea. PDFs usually have multiple pages per file, images (almost) never have.

So the UIs should be different. In the PDF viewer it should be easy to scroll and switch between pages (in the same file). In the image viewer it should be easy to switch between different images (each one in its own file).

That said, I do not oppose to making it easier to handle several PDF files in the PDF viewer, as long as that doesn't make it harder to switch between pages in the same PDF file (which is the most important use case). But please keep image viewer and PDF viewer as separate applications.

I'm suprised by the fact that some people thinks that the applications do two "completely different things". Evince already open many images files anyway...

I many times want to see the first page of many pdfs I've downloaded. If I try to open multiple files on evince I get multiple windows, which is very annoying. Maybe at least adding tabs to evince?

I will post this idea instead, then.
