Idea #21201: When copy files, add option "Replace if newer" to dialog

Written by poil the 26 Aug 09 at 16:17. Related project: Nautilus. Status: New
Rationale
When you copy a folder from one location to another location with the 'same' folder name, you often get the dialog "A file named "" already exists. Do you want to replace it?".

You get the options; Cancel, Skip All, Replace All, Skip, Replace.

I miss two options "Replace if newer", and "Replace all if newer", that only replace files if they are newer.

Reason: This will save a lot of time copying identical files.

This is neither a new problem nor a new solution:

Dear Akerbos,

I do not agree. This is a new problem and not related to the idea you refer to. The idea you refer to is concerned with what should happen in the background when a dialog appears during file copy operations.

I do see that this has been proposed as a solution #5 to this idea. But somehow that title "File operation should continue copying while waiting for user feedback" of that idea is not really related this solution and problem..

I searched a bit more.. it seems that Idea #15427: Nautilus to display more info while asking for copying existing file is also related...but I wouldn't say similar..

Have you read solution #5 of the problem I linked?

yes... I also made a comment on that "I do see that this has been proposed as a solution #5 to this idea. But somehow that title "File operation should continue copying while waiting for user feedback" of that idea is not really related this solution and problem..
