Rationale
windows users who visit ubuntu.com are likely to be doing so for a reason: they're curious about how ubuntu compares to windows, how difficult a transition would be, is ubuntu actually better than windows, what solutions are there for hardware compatibility, what alternatives are there to proprietary software, etc.
right now the inquisitive windows user has to visit a forum to find the information she or he is looking for. but some windows users may be more likely to trust a slickly designed static web page than a forum.
they might also prefer to have all the information they want on one page (or a smallish number of them) rather than in a format where they have to do searches for the information they're looking for.
and (most importantly) in a search for "windows users" on the ubuntu.com site, there are many forum threads that come up where windows users are spoken of disparagingly. that's really bad marketing! even if it's only a slightly disparaging tone--it's just bad!

The point isn't to show how ubuntu is compared to windows but just how good it is.
And I don't see a windows' users link in the mac page on apple's website.

I can remember (but can't find) a site that explains the benefits of Ubuntu in a graphical way, in simple language and using categories such as "Ubuntu is Safe, "Ubuntu is Easy," etc.
Perhaps something like that would be better suited than a simple wiki page.

Ssdg: The Apple website is loaded with their Mac vs. PC adverts, videos on "how easy it is to switch", and lists of Mac features that are directed against their PC caricature whenever applicable. All of the language is very obviously loaded against the Windows experience, and to play to the fears and ignorance of new users.
"What you're used to finding in the Start Menu is, on a Mac, divided between the Dock, the Apple menu and the Search bar. It's so simple!"
It's incredibly misleading, and incredibly effective. Not that Ubuntu needs to be misleading, but it doesn't hurt to throw a little mud. Just make it look fun and invite everyone to join in. It worked wonders for Apple.

@cheesehead:
it's good that the information is there--but my point is that that information should be more readily available, and more visually impressive, easy to navigate, etc.
the site that jon monreal pointed to (ubuntustory.com) is exactly the kind of slick interface i'm talking about.
but, once again, it's good that it's there, but it still isn't readily available to the target market in question--no link on the index page. as it is now, it's not the obvious destination for potential converts.
i think it's extremely important to divert this population away from forum threads that may be even slightly insulting. it would be one thing if it was only the windows os was being maligned in these threads, but all too often, it's the windows users themselves who are being attacked.
additionally, i think germclown makes a very valid point--there's no reason or benefit in avoiding explicit competition with windows (or osx for that matter)--while the benefits of doing so are obvious.
for these reason, the unbuntustory.com page (if this is the page to be used) should be rewritten to directly address the advantages of ubuntu over other os's, and should be made the obvious destination for all potential converts through the prominent placement of a link to it on the index page.
