Idea #2074: Create something like "System Preferences"

Written by kab the 1 Mar 08 at 08:04. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
The configuration menu in Ubuntu is overloaded. It would be nice if instead there would be a "System Preferences" Application like in Mac OS X, with an easy search Field for beginners. Type in screen and the applications for changing the wallpaper, screen resolution and screensaver are highlighted.

For beginners this would be a very big improvement and you only need one time to confirm the root password.

This is a great idea and should be considered together with idea #80: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/80/

There is such a thing, it's called the Control Center.
It may not function exactly as you describe it, but it's a good start.

yeah.. i think that a merge with 80 could be done.. And if you remember on ubuntu 6.10, more or less (my memory isn't so good), there was the Gnome Control Center and for a reason that i don't remember it was eliminated.. Could someone tell us why? so you could delete or implement this idea..
