Idea #19975: Make it easier to try/use UNR

Written by srippon the 24 May 09 at 09:09. Related project: ubuntu.com. Status: New
Rationale
Presently if you would like to try Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) you need to download it and install it onto a USB flash drive. While the Ubuntu Documentation site contains instructions on how to install an image onto a flash drive (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromImgFiles), I feel that may be a number of users who may not have the confidence or technical skills to do this.

I also believe there may be other users, like myself, who have a slow Internet connection, or who would just prefer something be sent to them.

Solution #1: Sell UNR preinstalled on USB flash drives
Written by srippon the 24 May 09 at 09:09.
Sell USB flash drives in the Ubuntu Shop (http://shop.ubuntu.com/) with UNR pre-installed.

When selling the flash drives make it clear the size of the drive and the amount of space left on the drive once UNR is on there.

Solution #2: Add .iso image of UNR alongside the .img
Written by kurdo_kolene the 24 May 09 at 09:51.
The reason for this is that Unetbootin, which i found to be a great app for making a live usb works only with CD .iso images or floppy disk .img images. The other reason is that you can use the .iso in a virtual machine, like virtualbox, qemu or vmware.

Actually, you can install the UNR interface with:

sudo apt-get install netbook-launcher

And then launch it via terminal, or through the startup applications list and restart X.
