Idea #1983: Support for mouses with more then 2 buttons

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #120: Mouse Button Extension.
Written by dario the 1 Mar 08 at 00:36. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
When having a mouse with 2 thumb buttons,it is sometimes difficult to make them working in nautilius and firefox(or opera etc) (functions like back and forward). I think they should be working without doing anything. It would be very good for people new to linux. Same problem was resolved in PCLinuxOS2007Gnome (also in KDE version, but there is a bug in it).

Solution #1: Auto-generated solution of idea #1983
Written by dario the 1 Mar 08 at 00:36.
Ubuntu Brainstorm was updated in January 2009. Since the idea #1983 was submitted before this update, its rationale and solution are not separated. Please vote accordingly, and if you have the necessary rights, please separate the rationale from the solution. Thanks!

Most mice have three buttons: the left mouse button, the right mouse button, and the scrolling wheel/button (older mice definitely have the first two; the scrolling wheel/button was the last of the three to be introduced in mice). So Ubuntu cannot use the scrolling wheel/button?
