Idea #19745: Inform users when brainstorm idea has been updated

Written by srippon the 10 May 09 at 04:39. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Category: Others. Status: New
Rationale
Presently Brainstorm does not notify you directly if an idea you've submitted, or participated (comment/vote) on, is updated.

If you want to check for updates you need to come to the brainstorm site, login (if you aren't automatically logging in), go to 'My dashboard' then navigate and check each individual ideas. This does not facilitate/encourage quick responses to comments posted to ideas.

Solution #2: Create a custom RSS feed for each idea.
Written by Darwin Survivor the 10 May 09 at 18:12.
Custom, page specific RSS feeds are quite easy to make, and they are much less obtrusive than emails.

If you are following a few solutions (or problems), you can simply add them to an RSS feed.

Solution #3: Allow users to create a personal RSS feed
Written by Darwin Survivor the 10 May 09 at 18:47.
Users should be able to create an RSS feed that shows updates to a list of ideas. This would be created in their dashboard, and would update every time something happened to any idea in a list supplied by the user.

Solution #4: Publish "Latest" and "Most Popular" ideas in RSS format
Written by aadityabhatia the 15 May 09 at 20:15.
This is a basic feature that will drive a lot of traffic to our brainstorm website.

People are too lazy to check the new/popular ideas daily, but when they see an interesting idea in their feed, they will be more likely to click on it.

RSS, being a universal format, could also be displayed as an iGoogle gadget, or something similar, on a user's homepage. Bottomline is that it can be displayed in several ways and hence will bring more users to this website.

Solution #5: Add option for brainstorm to Specto
Written by okdewit the 18 May 09 at 13:00.
Specto is already a great notifier in ubuntu for checking mail and website updates, Would be cool if it could be used for brainstorm (new Ideas, new Solutions to specific Ideas, and filters like notify about popular ideas / solutions and keyword filtering.)

RSS is a great one too.

Solution #6: One RSS feed for each user containing all participated ideas
Written by ReneL the 3 Jul 09 at 22:51.
In addition to #2 and #3, I would propose a mix of both of them:
auto-generate one custom feed containing all ideas the user has participated in (vote, comment).
