What I want to do is take a web browser and turn it into a terminal. Commands packaged in this browser should be be able to be linked with www browser for security reasons.

Basically, I want to execute script and have the output be in the web browser. and have it sender all css, javascript, html etc... Strip out all ftp, http and create one called exec or system

exec:/bin/ls

People who do not know anything about x11,qt,gtk or any of those but know php, perl, python, console based languages would be able to quickly create GUI based applications.

I believe this would be a powerful tool for ubuntu and linux in general. Would give them the edge over other os's. Rapid Application Development. You could even use flash.

I know some of you will probley say just use fire fox and goto about:config and create a network-protocol.handler or what ever that is. I just see a security flaw with that meathod. This would have to be stand alone. All http queries, the scripter should use with a curl command as to not create vulns in the application.

What do you think?

Webkit is Safari and Chrome, your thinking of Gecko. Also I'm not sure how this differs from features already available other than adding a custom exec system which could easily just be a plugin.

I am just thinking of security for the user, if people start to use this, i'm sure some bumb person online will create links like exec:/bin/rm -R / or something to that matter. If it's an external app, without the http requests, or make it so the user has to physically click on an item from their file maneger would probley be safer. Besides, we could add more non safe web plug ins to it.
