Rationale
Presently, the Save, Open, Print to File, etcetera options in any program can not follow links (the equivalent of a Windows shortcut) when declaring file locations.

Perhaps you are referring to .desktop files? which are really just launchers.

When I create a link, I get a file of type: "folder (inode/directory)". In Nautilus, I can double-click it and go to the location it refers to, but in save/open dialog I can't do that.
