Idea #1817: Allow login by face recognition

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #2: Fingerprint readers integration.
Written by brad the 29 Feb 08 at 20:58. Category: System. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Use the webcam and some AI to recognize the user and log them in. Better yet, use this system whenever sudo/gksudo wants a password so we don't have to type our password on our own laptop all the time. Of course, if the algorithm is unable to recognize us, then it can just fall back to asking for a typed password.

Cool idea! Sadly though I'm not sure if that is quite in reach :( *votes for it*.

Very great idea!

I think for normal home desktop computers the security should be good enough. But for server systems and notebooks this is not acceptable. I think a problem could be, that someone hold an image in front of the cam and login is granted.

The face recognition could also be combined with voice recognition, so the security can be improved.

I think fingerprint authentication urges most ;)

Too easy to hack. Just hold a picture of the authorized user to the computer and it will log you in.

That'd be nice for people with a Lenovo Ideapad, but I don't mind typing a password anyway.

A password is a great method in my opinion. I think this method too easy to hack.

Lethal idea : someone can cut off your head and bring it in front of your webcam and to log in. :D

This concept is great, and already being developed:
