Idea #18099: Integrate Evince into Firefox by default, to view PDF directly in the browser

bug This idea is a duplicate of Idea #366: PDF web browser plugin.
Written by svergeylen the 17 Feb 09 at 15:08. Related project: Firefox. Status: New
Rationale
I think that Evince must be integrated in Firefox, so we can see all PDF directly in the Browser.

Opening Evince a popup which tolds you that you're dowloading or saving the file, and then open it is really annoying.

if the pdf file is very large till the pdf downlowds, firefox becomes somewhat unresponsive. so i have to use pdf download plugin.

Solution #4: I prefer seperate apps for seperate things so no, AND...

...this isn't a "problem" it's a proposal which I happen to disagree with... A problem could be stated "Some people are so lazy they find having to use a separate application for each thing extremely tedious, involving as it does, a whole extra click in their workflow."

This approach permits multiple solutions such as...
A) Directly open PDF in Browser without any question
B) Screw those people, this thinking will eventually lead to a world where people live alone in darkened rooms fed by drip with waste extraction tubes up their bottoms in front of computers that consist of a big screens showing girls in bikinis and a single huge button with next written on it as an interface.

Be very dubious about ANY solution, suggestion or idea that ends "without any question".

Anyway, when you can set firefox to automatically open PDFs with your PDF reader what's the big whoop anyway???

Gah!

Deleted solution #2 as it describes another idea rather than a direct solution to the rationale.

Already done, you can use the package mozplugger to open a pdf document directly with evince in firefox

Another argument against this integration: Loading pdf's in firefox in windows often causes all of firefox to freeze up. I would rather have an external program freeze up than having firefox freeze up, screwing up whatever else I am doing in the browser.
