Idea #1805: Better DVD video burning options

Written by marenum the 29 Feb 08 at 20:46. Category: Multimedia. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I've found it difficult to burn DVD videos from some .avi files. Every program I use seems to have problems encoding. Normally the files end up too large to fit on the DVD, even though their base size is well under the limit. It would be nice not to have to go through a long conversion process just to burn DVDs. Roxio's Toast does a very good job of this.

Try K3B

When K3B encodes the files it makes them too large to fit on the DVD.

We have no good tools for creating dvds from avi or anything else yet under linux although DeVeDe is coming along nicely. I tend to use ConvertXtoDVD under Wine.

DVDStyler is still not in repos for authoring
and brasero lacks a DVD Video menu in its start page

I just had to figure this out for a friend, he only has a standard home DVD player, not computer, and I wanted to burn an AVI file to a DVD disc..

Couldn't find an "Easy" solution, plenty of complex feature-rich programs... but nothing really easy..

Kreuger: Looks like that DeVeDe is just what I was looking for.. I will try it when I get home.. just wish it had a DEB.. oh well

need something like Nerovision. Nero ported their burning program to linux, has anyone heard whether or not they plan on porting Nerovision Express?
