Idea #18: Tighter integration

bug This idea was marked as being not considered for implementation the 7 July 11.
Written by constrictor the 28 Feb 08 at 14:39. Category: Internet & Networking. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: Won't implement
Rationale
Tightly integrate, mail client, blog writer, feed reader, and calender into one application that is not too memory intensive. Something like having thunderbird by default write blogs, and have a two way sync with services like google calendar. Or maybe evolution but that is a heavy application that requires a lot of memory and i don't use it for that reason.

The next release of Thunderbird seems to be what this idea is talking about. Will definetely be on Ubuntu's repositories once it is released. On the other hand, Thunderbird 3.0 will not be released soon if I'm not mistaken.

Do you know that the integrated email client is evolution???

It has a GREAT integration with the system, and it has all the features you're asking for.

So maybe you re just... using the wrong software...

You're asking for more integration, but you're saying you don't use evolution because it is "heavy" Well, it is heavy because it is integrated.

Integration == Bad

Remember that Linux itself is pursuant to the original spirit of UNIX: Each program should do one thing, but to it incredibly well.

The more I see integration, the more I see flaws crop up. Look at the majority of Microsoft software here, people. I'd rather see Ubuntu go toward high quality than convenience.

@yaroman86: I don't see how high quality and convenience are necessarily incompatible.

Closing. This is not realy a developer issue, but a community leadership issue. Somebody in the community needs to step up and organize a team to make this happen.
