Description
In my opinion it would be better to improve write on fly on usb devices, and not in a second time. It's more usefful and you don't risk to unplug your USB pen without the safe removing.

Disabling buffers on slow devices would mean a performance hit. Some devices are not even able to deal with random unplugging.

It's best to keep mounting/umounting across the board to keep the user from making mistakes.

Lots of rewrites can also hurt the lifetime of your USB device, depending on what actual disk it's using.

If I understand your wording correctly, what you want can be accomplished with the "sync" option for mount.

BUT.. there IS no safe way to simply pull out a storage device and know that your files are intact. The only reason that idea is popular is that Microsoft and PCs made a huge mistake, and now, everyone is used to it. The sooner the idea dies, the better.

The real question becomes... what's a simple, natural, intuitive way for people to signal that they're done with a disk, and for the operating system to finish writing to it? And then, how can the operating system intuitively signal that it's OK to remove the disk?

nathan_s you noticed this is a duplicate, but forgot to let the admins know this fact by clicking the "report duplicates" button. I've done so for you :).

Perhaps that button needs to be clearer/easier to see.

Duplicates shouldn't be marked down simply cause they are duplicates, as I understand it the votes are merged into the original, so marking it down could possibly damage the original.
