Rationale
I have parents who live on a farm far from civilization, they use Ubuntu for email and a little surfing. Setting up a dialer and configuring the modem was a real hassle. Once set up it was great, no more calls to fix a broken Windoze install. It would be nice to be able to just take an ubuntu disk and install it, but that was not possible, had to install from home and take the computer back to the farm. I know its hard to believe, but people are really out there still using dialup...
Dialup's available, but the configuration doesn't work. Of course, it doesn't help that many current modems have no drivers for Linux. (grr, softmodems)
