I fully agree. Yes, on CLI one can use the pppoeconf command. But that is just the point of what shaningcn is suggesting: there is NO GUI to do this. This really should be no problem because in Knoppix and Kanotix this is used for years now.

Unbelievable that this is not introduced in Ubuntu :-(

I was nearly done writing a new idea, when I discovered this idea. So I'll comtribute my idea as a comment instead.

make menu item for pppoeconf and pon

There should be an applet / GUI based way to configure ppp connections such as DSL.

Right now it is only possible to configure the access credentials from the command line. Initially, when you want to configure a DSL connection for the first time, You have to type pppoeconf in a terminal, and a wizard with a primitive GUI pops up (made with ASCII chars) which the user has to fill in. Although It works very well, it looks very old school.

A "Configure Internet connectivity" wizard should be accessible from the System-> Administration or -> Preferences Menu

I know this is a possible duplicate to Idea number 4
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/4/
but that one has a much broader scope.
