Idea #17886: Activate disk usage analyzer on a folder though the nautilus context menu

Written by ffhex the 6 Feb 09 at 09:57. Related project: Nautilus. Status: New
Rationale
1) Add a menu item in the Nautilus folder context menu that launch the Baobab disk analyzer tool on that folder (just to show the folder storage usage status)

2) Add a button in the folder properties dialog that similarly launch the Baobab disk analyzer tool on that folder.

make these two enhancements standard in Ubuntu.
In the end this is just a convenient way to start Baobab just over a specific folder.

Solution #1: Make needed changes in the current Nautilus package
Written by ffhex the 6 Feb 09 at 09:57.
Simply add a menu item in the folder context menu (mouse right click activation) with the entry "Analyze folder storage usage" when the selected item is really a folder (disk directory)
Moreover in the folder property dialog a new button must be created, with the label "Folder storage statistics" so that the user can see the folder size and available disk space thanks to Baobab.

Solution #2: Add "Open With..." -> Disk analizer (baobab)
Written by chs42 the 6 Feb 09 at 15:11.
The right-click menu should not be cluttered as in the above solution. With normal files (i.e. pdfs) if multiple applications that can handle the filetype are installed, there is a right click option "Open With..." and a submenu with the apps.
Just add baobab disk analyzer tool to this list for folders.

Regarding the Solution #2.
I can agree to not clutter the menu but from an "user interface" point of view the "Open With..." is misleading as the operation is not to "Open" the folder bu just performing some analysis on it.
May be if we do not a cluttered menu we could only add a button just in the properties dialog for this task.

Well, it does open the folder. It opens it with baobab, just as you can open it with dolphin or thunar if you have dolphin or thunar installed.
