Description
I have a USB keyboard and it works in the BIOS, but it doesn't work in GRUB.
This could confuse new users, especially if they want to change the language of the boot cd.
Isn't this a critical point?

Works fine for me :) It's not a distro or grub thing, I think -- probably how you've configured your bios.

Could others verify this?

Sounds like a bug with your system. I would report it at launchpad.

I can verify that mine did not work in grub either, I googled and found that it was a BIOS setting. I set said BIOS setting and it worked in GRUB.
Fix yer BIOS or get grub to do full USB support.

I can USB keyboards at GRUB, it would have to do with your MoBo setup I am thinking. And if you can't enable USB keyboards in your BIOS, then check to see if there is a bios update that will allow USB keyboards.

In a couple of BIOSes i had to _enable_ "Legacy USB keyboard support" or something like that in order to get GRUB working.
When BIOS starts up, it's enabled to let you edit the settings, but if you haven't enabled it, it turns back off after the first screen (when you are in GRUB, but not yet in any OS).

"Fix yer BIOS or get grub to do full USB support."
So, is there a possibility to provide full usb support for keyboards in GRUB? I can change the settings in the BIOS, but can the average user do it? Will they want to try linux after hitting this wall?

This isn't grub's problem. I don't want to have to load a kernel for my bootloader to load my kernel.
Enable the setting in the BIOS, complain to your motherboard manufacturer to set the defaults to enable legacy emulation for usb devices.

I checked in the BIOS, it did have legacy support. For me, the problem is solved.
Still if this feature could fit in grub, it would be nice. But if it would make the codebase bloated, than forget it :-P

USB HID support is not extremely large (there are ready lite versions for keyboard devices) but as most of the users really don't require it, ...

I use a USB keyboard, and GRUB works for me, I think.

This maybe is a bug, could you report it at launchpad?

Everyones problems are solved it seems, so it doesn't need reporting..
Grub2 is designed to be a lot more modular, so maybe that has USB HID support built in?
