When a user (accidentially) goes to one of the virtual terminals (Ctrl-Alt f1 through f6), a message that tells him how to get back to the gui should be displayed,
e.g. "To go back to the Graphical User Interface, press Ctrl-Alt-F7".

Perhaps the virtual terminals shouldn't be there by default if they only confuse newbies.

I really like this idea! Don't disable the virtual terminals, but do display a message to guide new users. And it should be very simple to implement....

Very good idea. I accidentally entered a terminal by pressing CTRL ALT F1, only to then struggle to figure out how to get back without rebooting. I pressed various combinations at random until I found that CTRL ALT F7 did the trick. If that info had been displayed in the terminal, it would have saved a lot of hassle. I wonder how many people might accidentally press CTRL ALT F1(-6) and then think they have broken Ubuntu, and reboot to try to fix it.

You guys do know that just alt-f7 is enough to get back, right? :P
Switching terminals has traditionally been alt-Fn, just under X the extra ctrl is required. I like this idea tho. :)
