Idea #16438: Option for Nautilus to display size of files under their name, on any zoom level

bug This idea was marked as already implemented the 18 December 08.
Written by slsolaris the 12 Dec 08 at 04:14. Related project: Nautilus. Status: Already implemented
Rationale
I'd like if Nautilus had an option to always display the additional information (amount of items in a directory / size of a file, which is displayed with zoom level 150% or higher, even if the zoom level is just 100%.

I want to have this information, but think that the icons look to big at anything but 100%

I don't understand you at all.

So you're saying that there should be an option to always display item size regardless of zoom level? (use of word 'icon size' is a bit misleading.)

I'd have to second that, something which I'd definitely use if I had the option.

arand: Yes, that's what he means. I've updated the description to be more understandable.

A boolean option to display file size would be a hack. What about modification time or other attributes that a file might have? Maybe the option should allow the user to rank the attributes and set a minimum size when the first attribute is displayed. The others are displayed at larger zoom levels.

We found that this can already be done by changing a gconf item (/apps/nautilus/icon_view/captions; I'll write a blog post with more detailed instructions in a while).

slsolaris: I'm waiting for you to tell me whether this idea can be marked as "Already implemented" or you want to change it to something else?

I’ve just been told that there is an option in Nautilus for this, under Edit -> Preferences -> Show, so I'm closing this idea.
