Idea #16131: Make Brainstorm a part of Launchpad

Written by longtimeuser the 2 Dec 08 at 08:35. Related project: brainstorm.ubuntu.com. Status: New
Rationale
Brainstorm should be a part of Launchpad, next to bug tracker.

It should be available for all projects using Launchpad, not only Ubuntu.

That would contribute a lot to Linux community in general.

That would also reduce the administration overhead for
Ubuntu Brainstorm, especially for features that belong
to upstream projects.

brainstorm is useless, and I'm against additional load on launchpad servers.

+1 A lot of support requests (wiki/forums/irc), bugs (launchpad), ideas (brainstorm), and admin issues (irc) are misplaced when users don't understand the nature of their issue nor the proper venue for it.

And they shouldn't need to. The system should guide the issue to the correct place, whatever we call it.

This would be a good start.

I find it very ironic that you are actually spending time on Brainstorm commenting on how useless it is. If it's useless to you, why are you using it?

Bugs in Launchpad could also use +/- voting system,
to bring up the ones that affect the most users.

Actually, "idea / suggestion" and "bug" could
very well be just issue type in a drop down list.
They are really closely related entities.

And admins would be able to sometimes change the user
submission type to "bug" or "idea" as appropriate.

@Emacs23 - While you do have a point (if anyone has doubts do have a look at Ideas being worked upon and Implemented ideas - most of the things there are just coincidences) if brainstorming is to stay moving it to launchpad may be a good idea. +1

I think that unified login would be a good idea... but I'm not sure it needs to be part of launchpad.

They are open sourcing the next version of brainstorm, so other projects that want to use it can.

I would definitely vote up for improving the efficacy of popular brainstorms, but thats not exactly what this is about.

I find brainstorm interesting... not sure if it's productive though yet though (too much to filter through... and stuff being 'worked on' doesn't seem to relate to the ideas people want solved)

I do like the idea of being able to vote on / prioritize bugs ... not sure though if that would be representative though as I'm trying to picture how it would be efficient

[I have a desktop app that knows my packages and hardware and lists possibly relevant bugs... if it's more than say 100 is it really worth my time to look through them....I'm expecting there to be thousands. Perhaps I could prioritize it to the apps I care about... but wonder how friendly the bug reports are]
