Idea #16102: make apt like P2P

Written by allarem the 1 Dec 08 at 08:35. Related project: Synaptic package manager. Status: New
Rationale
why not we make apt-get(or Synaptic) like amule or BitTorrent with a md5sum check with every file.
we can set it's WAN upload speed , share in the lan ,link to the sources-server(as apt-get).

hm...I've known there is a "Make it simple to mirror and share Ubuntu repositories for local user groups"

of course ,GUI is very welcome.

In China , when 8.04 upgrade to 8.10 ,the upgrade speed is very very slow....course there are too many people needs upgrade.

Debtorrent is already available in the repos. Works great, too.

Well, you can upgrade from Alternate-CD (which is available via Torrent at a very fast speed).
The problem with P2P is that it's not very fast... but with several Ubuntu mirrors acting as seeders, speed would increase a lot.
