Idea #16050: Widgets on Login Page

Written by zephyrcat the 29 Nov 08 at 05:04. Category: Look and Feel. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
We already have widgets that display all the types of information you might want at a glance (and more), but they are stuck on our desktops.

Widgets on your desktop are great, but then only you can see them and they are usually hidden by your work. It would be better to put them on the login page, so that you can see them before you log in and anyone walking by can check the weather, too.

Seems fairly reasonable if implemented properly (safety & security first, features & usability second, just like it always has been).

+1

I fail to see anything wrong with doing that.

Good idea, but personally I use the auto-login feature.

Very good idea,
we thought of something similar at school for showing something like RSS feeds on GDM of our Debian based Terminalserver system.

Hope someone will have enough time to develop it - or may it just come with new versions of GDM ?

Not just GDM, KDM too, In fact it's easier in KDE, thanks to plasmoids.
