Idea #16008: Timer for resolution switcher

Written by pepperpupper the 27 Nov 08 at 13:48. Related project: Gnome. Status: New
Rationale
Create a confirm dialogue with a timer which will reverse the setting in case the selected resolution won't work.

This will avoid having to restart the computer each time switching to a resolution that causes the screen go black.

Idk about Gnome, but KDE4 offers this.

i'm pretty sure it's already done with Gnome too.

My intrepid's Gnome switches resolution with no undo timer.

I've had this on my Gnome for quite awhile now. Perhaps this is a support issue?

Here's a snippet from my .xbindkeysrc that might be inspirational:

"xrandr -s 1600x1200"
Control+Shift+Alt+k
"xrandr -s 1024x768"
Control+Shift+Alt+j
"xrandr -s 800x600"
Control+Shift+Alt+q
"xrandr -s 640x480"
Control+Shift+Alt+semicolon

xrandr -s sets the resolution to the argument. Put the bindings in the metacity or compiz configuration backends if you prefer...

When I change my resolution I see a dialog with a timer. I'm running Hardy. Why do I and some others have this timer while others don't have it? Is it removed in Intrepid?

@Linux-user, du you run KDE or Gnome?

Sorry for the late reply, pepperpupper. I'm running Gnome.
