Idea #15599: Applet for encapsulating launcher icons (instead putting them on the panel)

Written by Aphoxema the 13 Nov 08 at 18:08. Related project: Gnome. Status: New
Rationale
Instead of Drawer applet, I would like to see an applet that contains your launchers for you like the tasklist houses your open applications.

Putting the icons on the panel has it's uses, but can create quite a mess. If you rearrange your panels, you'll have to move every launcher. If you uninstall an application, the icon is replaced with a blank space and you have to move each launcher over to eliminate it.

With a bar that keeps them together, there will be no blank spaces and they can all be moved together. By making it a separate applet there's no risk of harming normal functionality of adding launchers to the Gnome Panel.

Yes, there is one applet that allows you to do it. I am no sure about its English name, but I think that is called "Drawer", "Case" or something similar.

The Spanish name is "Cajón".

You can add it to the panel clicking on it with the right button an selecting "Add to panel..."
