I don't think the default dust theme should be a default theme on Ubuntu, but maybe an upgraded version of Dust Sand theme, since most people don't like dark themes, and the default Dust theme as a choice.

I don't know about default, but I think that Dust Sand should definitely be included as an optional theme.

I would like to see OpenOffice as a seperate package, so more thing like this could be included (themes, wallpapers, sysinfo, clipboard manager etc). Although I guess an idea like that would get voted down, if I post it

-1 to any dark theme as default.
One day the Ubuntu usability experts will come to their senses; dark themes are less usable than light themes.

Just to be sure, we are talking about this theme, right?

chipbennett, I disagree, but that's a matter of opinion. If you use a computer for long periods of time, a dark theme is less likely to give you a headache.
I prefer dark themes because I have photo-phobia, and I'm a programmer, so spend lots and lots and lots of time on the computer.
I use a modded Blue Dust metacity plus a Dust/OS X hybrid.
That being said, I think the New Human theme is very beautiful, and fits the Ubuntu theme. African, warm orange and brown colors. It is good for newcomers. Should they dislike it, they can easily change the theme.

@lifestream: just to emphasize, I would only oppose making a dark theme the default.
I think they're great to have as options, and some of them do look pretty good (at least as screenshots).
But, not as default.

Maybe have it as an option but definitely NOT as default
HUMAN THEME FTW!

I'm sorry but I gotta be honest, this theme gives me the chills... It's a trip to yucksvile

I'm a fan of the Dust Theme and darker themes in general. What I don't understand is the negative reaction to dark themes, how are they less usable? And also, dust, unlike many dark themes such as Laza, is NOT dark, the backgrounds are very light and there is no eyestrain. However I would not recommend it be used as default because A) Human is the default theme for a usable and ideological reason (Ubuntu for Humans) and B) the themes progression has strayed away from the concept (which is really liked) and now has some questionable features.

The look of Ubuntu has to be updated - that goes without saying. Im glad Mark Shuttleworth is focusing on this area over the next year.
I love the sand theme - but if you are looking at a monitor all day like i do, you may want something that is going to psychologically 'pick you up' and make you feel at ease.
Maybe some research on what colours and artwork are attractive to desktop users should be considered rather then choosing colours and themese based on philosophical and/or unmeasurable reasons.
Overall, I think the sand theme is 100% improvement on the out-of-the box theme but I still think we can do even better.

Dust is a very nice theme, and people who say it is dark just hasn“t tried it. The only dark thing is the top part of the window, the rest is very light and easy to use even for light theme fanatics.

- doesnt give headache
- very aesthetical
- one of the few themes that look really professional.
look at the other standard themes - you cant really say they are better. i would definitly integrate it, standard or not, people will use it.

I think the Dust theme need some improvements.
The theme needs to be a mix between dark and light it's now to dark.

I haven't really liked a dark theme, but I have to say that Dust on Jaunty is really good and has become my default theme.
+1 for me!
I think that a dark theme would make Ubuntu recognizable from other desktop/distros.
Who don't like the dark theme will be able to switch to a light one, "de gustibus non est disputandum".

I don't what you guys are talking about. Dust looks great is alot less straining on the eye. Dust Sand is alright, but i really would like to see something unique for the default theme.
