Timer-Applet is in universe. It's an excellent simple timer that runs from your panel.

Since evolution has this functionality, I wouldn't install a separate alarm program by default. That's what the repositories are for.

The idea is exactly this: I don't need to install a separated program to do it. You just need a applet built-in task bar.

I think the solution is fixing evolution. IE: being able to launch ONE component.

cant seem to use anything that has to do with evolution without it asking me to set up an email account which I don't have. I use web-based email. I'd like to use the calendar and the other features, and I guess I could probably use bogus info in Evolution, I just have an inherent distrust of email apps due to being burned by (gasp!) Outlook Express

I think it's not important to include it in the installation... if you want an alarm get it with apt..

Could it be integrated with Tomboy???
Tomboy the note manager is a great software but an alarm feature could be a great thing to ask us to read again notes....

I believe a already installed tiny alarm program is just as useful as Tomboy notes, or any other of the little programs installed as default. Seems silly that Ubuntu doesn't have this built in yet.
