Idea #14217: Option to run Wine in seperate xserver

Related to: Wine. Status: New
Description
Some programs (games especially) benefit when Wine is run in a separate xserver. Some users have developed programs and scripts to do this automatically, but I think this can be improved and made an option in Wine.

Neat idea. I'll abstain from voting until I try it.

I'm very skeptical as to why this would help speed things up.

Any explanation of why? Because I would think it only creates more overhead

Hello? 76 people have voted this up, and nobody has even questioned why this would speed stuff up?

I assume this idea involves simply not running a desktop environment (to save ram and CPU)?

In which case you aren't running wine in a seperate Xserver at all...

Btw, this is one problem with Brainstorm. The moment someone mentions "optimisation" or something that obviously doesn't act as expected, everyone is quick to up-vote it.

However, in many cases, the idea may not be valid

Ok.. I'm voting this -1.

It seems to suggest running 2 X11 servers, which just creates overhead, and even if it means 1, that can be done with the kiosk mode idea posted much earlier.

Some verification

It may increase system RAM usage, but it decreases video RAM usage.
